Stereotypes about Americans
Actually I am a little bit shocked.I
tried to do some research on the Internet
about stereotypes. My first step was trying to find a definition and the first one I found was the following:
"A
stereotype is used to catergorize a group of people. People don't
understand that type of person, so they put them into
classifications, thinking that everyone who is that needs to be like
that, or anyone who acts like their classifications is one." (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=stereotype)
It seemed to be Ok so far. I
was already trying to close this page, but then I realized the video on the
bottom of the webpage. The title of
this video is: The
Stereotypes Song - (Your Favorite Martian music video). I think this title sounds great, so I decided to watch it. This video was really not what I expected, but I decided to share it with you, so you can form your own opinion.
I
think stereotypes are somehow problematic. In my opinion nothing is
ever true for a whole group of people, but anyway they have to come
from somewhere. Here are some examples of stereotypes about
Americans my
class came up with:
"Americans are fat, because they eat too much fast food"
"They have big cars"
"Everyone
has a gun"
"Every
high school has a " queen"
"Always
standing in queues"
"Americans
do not know many countries and cities from Europe."
